Naryn is a town in central Kyrgyzstan and home of UCA's first campus. In mid-August we spent 10 days at a faculty orientation with just a few odd hours of free time to walk down to the Naryn River or drive up to a nearby overlook. This is the heart of the Tien Shan thrust belt and the university seems to straddle a fault separating basin fill to the north from thrust sheet to the south.
We took a one-day break to visit a "tourist farm" where a local family demonstrated the traditional Kyrgyz lifestyle. We built a yurt, had four traditional meals, practiced archery, rode horses, and held an eagle. Pretty cool stuff, although eating lamb lung was a bit odd......
Thanks, Dave! It is fun to see where you are! Looks like it is just "what the doctor ordered"! Sounds like you are in for a truly enriching experience! Look forward to more! Here all is okay with some changes afoot, as always. So far they seem to be good!
