My host university (University of Central Asia) has campuses in two countries, so I traveled to Kyrgyzstan for a combined faculty orientation. First we flew into Bishkek and stayed overnight, where I met my first faculty colleague, walked the Bishkek streets a bit, and had a lovely dinner of lamb kebobs.
It's a five hour drive from Bishkek southward to Naryn, across the grain of the Tien Shan Mountains. The landscape reminds me of southern Nevada except with taller, more closely spaced mountains. Beautiful!
